A mentor offers guidance, support, and feedback to mentees, nurturing their talents and fostering a deeper understanding of the interpreting process.
Having the guidance and support of a trained mentor is highly recommended and valuable, regardless of years of Certification level. You may be seeking the support of a mentor as a student interpreter, emerging interpreter or experienced interpreter.
Effective mentoring for interpreters goes beyond imparting technical knowledge. It involves creating a supportive and collaborative environment where mentees can freely express their concerns, seek advice, and receive constructive criticism. Through regular interactions, mentors help interpreters identify areas of improvement, set achievable goals, and devise personalised learning strategies.

What Is The Process?
Mentoring for interpreters can take various forms, from one-on-one coaching sessions to group workshops and webinars. It often incorporates real-life scenarios and practical exercises to simulate the challenges interpreters may encounter professionally. This experiential learning approach allows mentees to refine their interpreting techniques, adapt to different contexts, and hone their communication skills.
ASLIA
Mentoring Program
ASLIA Members have the benefit of accessing the ASLIA mentoring program. Any level interpreter can engage the services of a trained mentor via their gallery of trained mentors.
You can request a mentor via the ‘Request a mentor’ link and provide the name of the interpreter you would prefer. Alternatively, you can ask to be matched up with an appropriate mentor based on your goals.

You set the schedule and length of the sessions based on your goals. An agreement is outlined and agreed upon between the mentee and mentor.
